POSITION: Medical Director - Veterinary Technician (Part-Time) LOCATION: Baker of Cadillac
Baker College Professional Services, Inc. seeks to hire an individual to be assigned to the position of MEDICAL DIRECTOR - VETERINARY TECHNICIAN (PART-TIME) for the benefit of and to be located at Baker of Cadillac.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Medical Director - Veterinary Technician will supervise the medical treatments and procedures performed on all animals within the veterinary technology program. They will perform surgeries as needed, support and assist with program development, and be responsible for student instruction and advising. The Medical Director will also act as the program director to provide leadership and management of all aspects of the veterinary technology program by providing discipline-specific expertise, supervising staff and faculty members, addressing students’ needs, and maintaining a required teaching load.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: •Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and current Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) license required •Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration required •General knowledge of anesthesia, emergency procedures, and care of hospitalized patients, including general surgery required •Minimum of 3 years of current clinical experience required •College teaching experience preferred •Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps •Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills •Ability to lift and maneuver independently up to 50 lbs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Maintain a teaching load •Perform general surgeries •Oversee administration of medical procedures •Oversee maintenance of medical records and computer database •Oversee maintenance of controlled substance log •Assist with acquisition of new clinical sites for student learning and externships •Participate in accreditation process •Serve on advisory board •Develop the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) •Advise students •Participate in student orientations •Participate in system meetings and duties •Attend continuing education (CE) conferences; Attend Association of Veterinary Technician (AVTE) biannually and one other conference annually •Manage class and learning environments by maintaining attendance records, submitting grades on time, and providing constructive student feedback. •Deliver effective instruction and support a range of learning activities •Assess student learning by using a variety of techniques to access student learning •Maintain professional expertise and/or professional proficiencies •Provide service to the program by managing textbook accuracy, attending campus/system meetings, mentoring others, and developing and maintaining external partnerships •Engage in scholarly activities such as author publication(s), serve as an invited lecturer, and secure and utilize internal/external grants •Other duties as assigned
WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 28 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, some evenings and weekends may be required

STARTING DATE: September 11, 2017
COMPENSATION: Salary based on education, experience, and existing wage rates paid for similar positions within Baker College Professional Services, Inc.
