First Coast No More Homeless Pets, one of the leading non-profit animal welfare organizations in northeast Florida is adding a Chief Medical Officer to our management team. Our 120 paid team members include 20+ veterinarians and 65+ vet techs. Our spay/neuter clinic performs 22,000+ spay/neuter surgeries annually and our veterinary hospitals see 80,000+ patients each year. Our policy is to never turn away a pet in urgent need regardless of the owner’s ability to pay and we are working to provide affordable access to veterinary care for all pets. Our regional safety net hospital serves a two state region is open seven days a week, with evening hours and the goal of providing 24 hour service in the future.
Jacksonville (Duval County) and several surrounding counties are saving 90+% of shelter pets and we continue to be a strong partner with many area shelters to help ensure this continues. We are a large TNR provider and are working to increase the 7,000 annual community cat surgeries we perform each year in an effort to decrease kitten shelter admissions.
FCNMHP is recognized as a national thought leader and continues to be at the forefront of companion animal welfare issues. Economic euthanasia and access to veterinary care for all are quickly being recognized as major animal welfare issues and FCNMHP is helping to drive the national conversation.
The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for establishing high quality medical and surgical protocols and enhancing current guidelines. The CMO will develop and help enforce practices to ensure pet owners and shelter and rescue partners experience an overall positive experience. This will involve designing efficient systems of patient flow, customer care, medical record keeping, and client communication for a high volume, fast-paced environment. The CMO will participate in financial planning and will assist in preparing annual budgets and is responsible for adhering to budgets once established. The CMO will oversee the training of the veterinary team and will enforce policies and protocols thus established. This position is part of the executive management team at the highest level and collaborates with the entire management team, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer. The CEO leads the management team and has overall responsibility for the organization.
This is primarily an oversight/management position and the ideal candidate will have at least five years managing large teams of veterinarians, preferably at multiple locations. Experience in both for profit and nonprofit, high volume organizations is helpful. A work history that includes general medicine and emergency room experience is essential, high volume spay/neuter and clinical work is especially helpful for this position. A sincere interest in the mission and vision of the organization is essential.
