Uses veterinary expertise to ensure the welfare and care of all animals in a preclinical research setting. This includes directing and performing veterinary examinations, medical care and treatments for a broad spectrum of large and small laboratory animals, providing leadership and guidance to animal care and technical staff, providing surgical and medical recommendations to clients regarding animal model selection and technical procedures, and participating in client studies as necessary. Shares after-hours, on-call, and weekend responsibilities on a rotating basis.
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field.
DVM degree from an accredited school of veterinary medicine.
Research experience with a broad knowledge of animal models is preferred. Experience in a GLP environment a plus.
Strong working knowledge of AAALAC, USDA, FDA and GLP regulations as they pertain to veterinary care is preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
