Manage the veterinary assistants.
Create work schedule for the technicians and assistants.
Must have an understanding of animal behavior and strong clinical skills in order to properly evaluate an animal's condition and provide treatment.
Take medical histories.
Carry out doctor instructions.
Document patient statistics.
Computer proficiency is expected as there is a physical and electronic file for every pet/client.
Enter any vaccines/services on the patient visit list.
The ability to comfort, handle and restrain mainly dogs and cats.
Assist veterinarians in the care of animals.
Perform an initial evaluation of the animal's condition.
Clean and wrap wounds.
Check vital statistics.
Develop non-digital radiography.
Perform basic lab work, including urinalysis/catheter placement, fecal and blood tests.
Assist with procedures such as teeth cleaning and other surgeries. Surgical assistance includes: dental prophylaxis, anesthesia (induction, monitor, and recovery).
Help during patient examinations and surgical procedures by restraining animals when necessary.
Sterilizing instruments and ensuring that equipment is in working order.
Communicate with coworkers, pet owners and update patient files.
Kennels (see Boarding Attendant Animal Care Instructions) Monday-Friday and weekends when needed.
