Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic, an AAHA accredited, 5-doctor veterinary practice in Rapid City, South Dakota is looking for a veterinarian to join our team.
We have most of the bells and whistles comprising digital radiology including dental; ultrasound; all the oscopies – laparo-, arthro-, rhino-, cysto-, and endo; full Idexx/Cornerstone laboratory, multiple anesthetic monitors and warming units, sevoflurane, fluid pumps, underwater treadmill, separate feline and canine hospitalization wards, and full pharmacy. We are 5 hours to the closest referral hospital so in addition to general practice our veterinarians have each developed many additional skills including orthopedics (CBLO and advanced fracture repair), echo and abdominal ultrasound, and numerous soft tissue surgical procedures. We also have a dedicated rehabilitation room with underwater treadmill. We perform many dental and extraction procedures and have a boarded veterinary dentist that works out of our practice 1-2 days each month.
We are immensely proud of our technical staff. They are highly skilled, motivated, and team oriented. Sample collection and processing, radiographs, anesthetic monitoring, intravenous catheter placement, surgical preparation and assistance, assistance in examination rooms, filling and billing, and care of hospitalized patients during the day and overnight are part of our technician’s duties. This allows our doctors to focus on veterinary duties of examination and developing diagnostic and treatment plans.
Our ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, be highly motivated, be personable and excel at communication, and be progressive and willing to learn. They would buy in to our AAHA certification and high standard of care. We are happy to provide mentorship if needed but prefer at least some experience, though recent graduates will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
We utilize the local emergency clinic after hours but do have technical staff overnight to care for our hospitalized patients. We work 18-19 days per month. While our clinicians are dedicated, we appreciate time away from work and a good work/life balance. The Black Hills and Rapid City, South Dakota provide endless opportunity for outdoor recreation. Rapid City is a great community in which to work, play, and live.
We offer a base salary (experience determined) plus a percentage of gross. Benefits include medical, dental, liability, disability, paid personal leave, continuing education, and multiple professional memberships based on interests.
Please email cover letter and resume or CV.
About Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic
Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic was originally founded in 1947, when it was called Norris Veterinary Service. Back then, it was a mere two room “cow camp” and most of the services offered were for large animals. In 1984, the practice name was changed to Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic and with that name change came the first initial phases of transition into what today is a comprehensive and progressive companion animal and equine veterinary practice. Over the years, our practice has seen many changes as we’ve improved our technology and equipment, expanded our services and assembled a team of highly skilled, caring veterinary professionals. The one thing that hasn’t changed is our unwavering commitment to improving the lives of our patients and helping each one of them enjoy as many happy, healthy years as possible. It is this dedication that allows us to deliver the most effective, comprehensive care available in the Rapid City and Black Hills area. Our hospital is made complete with an incredible team of veterinarians, technicians, assistants and support personnel who are passionate about animal health care. In fact, most of our staff has been with DHVC for nearly a decade! The se...rvices provided to our patients include wellness care and preventative medicine, advanced diagnostic testing, complex surgery and more. We also offer full service pet boarding to accommodate all pet care needs in one convenient location. Our patients include traditional companion animals, such as dogs and cats, as well as pocket pets, birds, reptiles and exotics. We also provide complete equine health care services.
